A Historic Milestone for African Aviation Training
First EASA Part 147 Approved Training Organization in the West African sub-region
March 25, 2023 — Official certification announcement
On March 25, 2023, the Aerojet Aviation Training Academy formally announced receipt of European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 147 approval for aircraft technician and engineer training programmes — making it the first Approved Training Organization for aircraft maintenance in the West African sub-region.

What EASA Part 147 Approval Means
The EASA Part 147 is an internationally recognised quality assurance scheme ensuring aviation maintenance training meets stringent European standards. The certification confirms:
- Training facilities and equipment meet European aviation regulator requirements for workshop spaces, tooling, and instructional technology
- Curriculum and instructional materials align with international best practices and EASA competency standards
- Instructor qualifications and experience meet the requirements for delivering approved training across all subject areas
- Quality management systems ensure consistent delivery and continuous improvement of all training services
- Examination and assessment procedures are fair, rigorous, and independently verified against EASA benchmarks
With this approval, Academy graduates become eligible to sit for the EASA Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance Engineer's Licence examinations, qualifying them as certified B1 (Mechanical) or B2 (Avionics) engineers able to work across Europe, North America, and international markets.
Temporary Training Facility at ATTC, Kokomlemle
The Academy currently operates from a temporary training facility at the Small Engines Department, Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC), Kokomlemle, providing state-of-the-art workshop facilities, modern training equipment, and advanced AI-enabled intelligent maintenance solutions infrastructure. This temporary facility enables students to begin hands-on EASA Part-66 training while the permanent training centre at Accra International Airport (formerly Kotoka International Airport) progresses through development.
This certification lays the foundation for the planned EASA Part 145 certified MRO facility, creating a complete ecosystem of aviation excellence — from training through to operational maintenance services. It opens doors for Ghanaian aviation professionals to gain internationally recognised qualifications without leaving the continent.
