March 2024 — MBS Ghana Ltd construction contract signed
In March 2024, Aerojet Aviation Limited and MBS Ghana Ltd entered into a contract for construction works on "The Accra MRO Project" at Accra International Airport (formerly Kotoka International Airport). Site clearance has commenced on the development site, marking the transition from planning to active implementation.
Project Site and Concession
The MRO facility is being developed on a 12.1-acre site secured through a 50-year concession agreement with the Ministry of Defence and Ghana Air Force. This long-term institutional commitment provides the stability necessary for major infrastructure investment and signals strong government backing for the project.
Current Development Status
- Site clearance and ground preparation activities underway
- Technical validation and operational design ongoing with Lufthansa Consulting
- USTDA-funded feasibility study providing strategic guidance
- Training operations active at the ATTC Kokomlemle temporary facility
- Stakeholder engagement continuing with Government of Ghana partners
The permanent MRO hangar complex and training centre will be constructed at Accra International Airport (renamed from Kotoka International Airport), creating a fully integrated aviation maintenance campus. The project has been prioritised by the Government of Ghana to achieve strategic economic objectives including stimulating growth, reducing air travel costs through local maintenance, and creating high-skilled technical employment.
